FAST, PRACTICAL SOLUTIONS FOR CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT

At Amtek, 3D printing is an integral part of how we develop ideas, validate concepts and support our customers through early design stages. Our printers are not intended for high volume production, but they are extremely effective for rapid iteration, functional mock ups and low force fixtures that keep projects moving at pace.

We use 3D printing wherever it adds value. Sometimes the best support for a customer is a quick, low cost prototype to check a mechanism, confirm a fit or help a team visualise a design. At other times, a simple 3D printed alignment aid or test part can save hours of development time. By integrating printing directly into our engineering process, we reduce risk, accelerate validation and make it easier for customers to make informed design decisions.

Supporting Development with Practical, Fast Prototyping

3D printed models are a powerful tool during the concept and early design phases. We can produce components quickly to explore fit and form, assess mechanisms or trial different design approaches without waiting for machined parts. This approach supports smoother design reviews and gives customers something tangible to hold, test or compare.

Our 3D printing capability is also valuable for creating lightweight jigs, guides and assembly aids. These parts are ideal where a low load, non structural tool is needed to simplify a task or support a trial. We also produce small enclosures, brackets and non critical test components to support internal tests or customer trials.

We regularly use 3D printing during investigations and development tasks such as checking clearances, mocking up assemblies and producing dummy parts for process studies. This hands on approach ensures our engineering decisions are grounded in physical reality, not just CAD.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR OUR CUSTOMERS

Rapid Prototyping for Faster Development

We use 3D printing to create immediate prototypes, allowing quick iteration, testing, and refinement of designs to accelerate product development timelines.

Early Validation to Reduce Risk

Functional checks and concept testing on printed models help identify issues early, reducing costly errors and ensuring designs meet requirements before production.

Enhanced Design Communication

Tangible 3D models improve collaboration and understanding during design reviews, helping teams and stakeholders visualise concepts more clearly.

Practical Tools and Mock-Ups

Low-cost printed fixtures, aids, and mock-ups support trials, assembly studies, and decision-making, minimising rework and speeding up project progress.

WORKING WITH YOU

We align our 3D printing work with your project needs. For some customers, this means a one off model to support a design review. For others, we provide ongoing prototypes during development or regular batches of small tools and fixtures. Our goal is always to provide the most practical, cost effective solution for the stage you are in.

Our engineers decide when to use 2D sketches, 3D modelling or printed prototypes based on what will produce the clearest and most efficient result. Sometimes a printed test piece is the fastest way to answer a question. At other times, a sketch or simulation is more appropriate. We use the right tool at the right time.

We can also assist with replacement of small non-structural parts, especially for equipment where original components are obsolete or long lead items. These replacements can support testing, training or maintenance activities while keeping costs under control.
